Last week, my husband and I had friends from out of town come to visit us in Nashville. We wanted to keep things low key and decided that ordering takeout for most of our meals would be the way to go, as we were a large crowd. Also, who doesn’t love a good movie night with friends, when your favorite dishes are only a few steps away? Luckily Grubhub has some excellent options, including many of our local go to restaurants, where we could order in advance. Our meals were ready upon arrival, so we did not waste any of our precious bonding time waiting in lines. Below is our food diary from the weekend, highlighting our restaurant picks and favorite dishes.
Friday Night
Our friends arrived late at BNA airport and were definitely ravenous upon arrival. It was pretty unanimous that everyone was craving barbecue. We quickly decided to order from Charcoal Cowboys BBQ, as we love their food and knew that they could feed a crowd. Highlights from the evening included the brisket platter, pulled pork platter, baked mac and cheese, as well as homemade banana pudding to top it off. Our food was delivered when we arrived home and all of us devoured our barbecue while catching up.

Saturday Morning
It’s safe to say that after a day of travel, many of our guests were happy to sleep-in Saturday morning. Around 11am, when we began to wake up, our stomachs were once again growling and ready for breakfast. After quickly scrolling through our options, it was obvious that the group needed to experience a Nashville classic, the Loveless Café. Their flaky biscuits alone are legendary. We placed our order online through Grubhub and before we knew it we were happily enjoying chicken and waffles, French toast with bacon, and of course, biscuits with sausage gravy at our dining room table.

Saturday Night
Around early evening, we decided to begin getting ready for our big night out. We were going to head Downtown to show our friends the Nashville honky tonks and bars on Broadway, but knew that we would need some sustenance beforehand. The vote was for Mexican and it did not take us long to decide on ordering from one of our under the radar favorites, El Fuego. After quickly having dinner delivered, we sat in the living room and enjoyed dishes such as chicken and steak fajitas, cheese quesadillas, and Carne Asada tacos, while watching a movie on Netflix. At that point we were well fed and ready for the fun night ahead.

In preparation for some late night cravings I also ordered the delicious and slightly addictive local, No Baked Cookie Dough, earlier in the night and stored it in our fridge. My planning turned out for the best and it was the perfect treat to satisfy our sweet tooth, before collapsing into bed. I am still dreaming about the peanut butter and cookies n’ cream flavors.

Sunday Morning
The following morning we were feeling a little sad, knowing that our friends were leaving in just a few short hours. On top of that, a few of us woke up feeling worse for wear after enjoying some drinks the night before. Nothing cures a headache quite like a cold juice or smoothie, so for our final meal together, we decided to order from Rush Bowls. It was just the tonic we needed after a night out. Their Acai bowls are legendary, topped with fresh fruits such as bananas, blueberries, mangos, and strawberries. We also slurped down a refreshing blueberry moon smoothie and the very appropriate Poe’s hangover smoothie. Overall, it was just the healthy kick the group craved to help see them through their journeys that day.

We had the best time showing our visitors around Nashville and really appreciated the convenience that ordering from Grubhub provided. My husband and I were able to show our friends the best of the local food scene, while not wasting any time standing in line or waiting for food at restaurants. Now we just cannot wait until they come back so that we can enjoy even more delicious meals together!

Growing up in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, I fell in love with the South at a young age. After graduating from Vanderbilt and spending a few years in Washington DC, I am now thrilled to have a home in East Nashville with my husband. On most weekends I can be found at Barista Parlor for an almond milk latte or heading out to explore Shelby Park with our Goldendoodle, Tallulah.
